IDRA is co-publishing a major new handbook with INBO (International Network of Basin Organizations) and IWRA, providing practical guidance to basin organizations and public decision-makers on diversifying the water resources mix at the basin level. It will be announced at the IDRA World Congress 2026 in Riyadh and formally published at the 11th World Water Forum in March 2027.

IDRA is leading two chapters: reuse of treated wastewater, and seawater and brackish water desalination. We are writing these chapters in-house, but we need strong case studies to sit alongside the text.

What we need from members

We are looking for member-contributed case studies in three priority areas where our existing material is thinnest:

• Brine management and mineral recovery. Projects demonstrating zero liquid discharge, brine valorization, or lithium, magnesium, or salt recovery at scale.
• Mega-city and high-density urban water management. How large coastal or inland cities are planning desalination and reuse at population scale, including integration with urban infrastructure.
• Basin-level integration. Case studies where desalination or reuse has been embedded in a wider basin water strategy alongside surface water, groundwater, demand management, and reuse.

Other relevant submissions will be considered, but these are where the handbook most needs member input.

Format

Each case study will be presented as a one-page “box” in the handbook. We need:

A short summary of the project or program
Key data points (capacity, cost, energy, recovery rates, population served)
One or two copyright-free images
Lessons learned from implementation
You will be credited as the contributor and will have visibility at launch events.
