Va Tech Wabag to build new wastewater plant in Delhi

May 22, 2026

Water treatment firm Va Tech Wabag has been awarded a contract by the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) to build and operate a new wastewater treatment facility in the Indian capital.

The contract covers the design, engineering, construction, and commissioning of a 17 million gallons per day (MGD) wastewater treatment plant at Mitraon, along with a sludge dewatering facility, pumping stations, and associated pipework. Following completion, Wabag will also be responsible for the plant’s ongoing operation and maintenance under a Design, Build, Operate (DBO) arrangement.

The order is classified by the company as medium value, falling in the range of ₹100 crore to ₹250 crore (approximately US$12 million to US$29 million).

The Mitraon plant forms part of broader efforts to improve wastewater infrastructure in Delhi and reduce pollution flowing into the Yamuna river. Natrajan S, Head of Sales and Marketing for Wabag’s India Cluster, said the project would “enhance sanitation, optimize resources, and contribute to the city’s long-term water security.”
