NX Filtration to enable reliable drinking water production from challenging surface water in Canada

May 12, 2026

NX Filtration has been selected to supply its hollow fiber nanofiltration (HFNF) technology to Komline Pure Water, a Canadian industrial water and wastewater treatment company. The HFNF modules will be applied in a new drinking water project in Canada to treat challenging surface water for the Ministry of Environment and Parks, with McElhanney acting as Engineer of Record.

The water source is characterized by highly variable quality, including elevated levels of natural organic matter (NOM), color, and low UV transmittance. These conditions limit the effectiveness of conventional treatment technologies and create challenges in achieving stable and reliable drinking water quality.

NX Filtration’s Hollow Fiber Nanofiltration (HFNF) technology was selected to address these challenges through a robust and efficient treatment approach. The system provides an effective barrier for organic compounds and micropollutants, significantly improving downstream disinfection performance while ensuring consistent, high-quality drinking water. By simplifying the treatment process, HFNF enables a more reliable and operationally efficient solution compared to conventional multi-step treatment trains.

“A key factor in this project was the ability to reliably treat highly variable surface water while maintaining consistent performance,” said Mustafa Al-Sajry at Komline Pure Water. “NX Filtration’s HFNF technology allows us to simplify the treatment process and improve overall robustness, which is essential for applications where water quality conditions can change rapidly.”

“We are proud to support this project together with Komline Pure Water,” said Esther Victoria Guedez, Country Manager North America at NX Filtration. “This project clearly demonstrates how HFNF can handle highly variable surface water conditions while improving overall treatment performance. The project highlights the growing adoption of advanced membrane technologies to secure safe drinking water supplies from increasingly complex water sources.”
