Spain, 24th. June, 2025. The Government of Castilla-La Mancha, through the Counseling of Sustainable Development, has allocated 5.4 million euros in the construction and commissioning of the new Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTPs) of Cebolla, Mesegar de Tajo and Montearagón, which are already in operation to serve the citizens of these municipalities.

The president of Castilla-La Mancha, Emiliano García-Page, expressed the importance of these inaugurations for the community, highlighting the need to “not pollute our waters” and to comply, in turn, with European regulations and Spanish legislation.

The three new Wastewater Treatment Plants have started their final commissioning and are working at full capacity, through a sustainable management of the integral water cycle. In addition, in order to solve the flooding problems in the municipality of Montearagón, a new collector has been added to the WWTP.

At the Montearagón station, which has a treatment capacity of 247.68 m³/day, the incoming collector has been installed to improve drainage and comply with discharge regulations.

The Cebolla WWTP, with a capacity of 1,542 m³/day, has a complete replacement of the urban channeling, including 850 meters more of piping in the drinking water network, to help prevent flooding, as in the case of Montearagón.

In the Mesegar treatment plant, with a capacity of 179.44 m³/day, the pumping well has been renovated, equipped with two centrifugal pumps, and a new attached storm tank has been installed for emptying by gravity.

The Councilor for Sustainable Development, Mercedes Gómez, has highlighted the importance of these stations for the municipalities of Toledo which, until now, did not have an adequate wastewater treatment system.

These plants, carried out by the public law entity Infraestructuras del Agua de Castilla-La Mancha, have been built using both resources of the Autonomous Community and European funds earmarked for purification, of which 72% have already been executed.

During the inauguration ceremony, the president was accompanied by the mayor of Montearagón, Teodoro Jiménez, the mayor of Cebolla, Silvia Díaz del Fresno, and the mayor of Mesegar del Tajo, José Luis Arrogante, as well as other regional authorities. Also present were Juan Manuel Soto, O&M Director of GS Inima and María Quintana, Head of Tenders of the Integral Water Cycle, as well as spokespersons from Viales and Public Works.

With the completion of this project, GS Inima reaffirms its commitment to improving the quality of life of citizens and the search for a more sustainable and environmentally friendly future.
