GS Inima has successfully completed the Daesan Plant Project, South Korea’s first major desalination facility

April 13, 2026

  • GS Inima and GS E&C finalized the engineering, design, and construction of the nation’s first large-scale desalination plant.
  • The facility successfully passed performance tests, operating continuously at full capacity.

Spain, April 13th, 2026. GS Inima has completed the Daesan seawater desalination plant project and has officially transferred the facility to K-Water (Korea Water Resources Corporation). The project marks a milestone as the country’s first large-capacity desalination infrastructure, designed to secure the water supply for one of Korea’s most strategic industrial hubs.

The handover occurs following the successful completion of the Initial Performance Test on March 8. During this phase, the plant operated continuously at full capacity, validating its stability and efficiency across various operational regimes. This milestone confirms the reliability of the engineering implemented to meet the client’s demanding technical requirements.

The project was executed through close collaboration between GS Inima and its parent company, GS E&C. This synergy made it possible to integrate advanced desalination technology with engineering execution tailored to the local environment.

The completion of Daesan was a challenge that highlights our ability to integrate a highly technically complex project under extremely demanding international standards. By working in close partnership with GS E&C allowed us to optimize every stage of the value chain, ensuring that Korea’s first major desalination plant meets the highest levels of quality and operational reliability,” Patricia Montero, Procurement Director of GS Inima.

GS Inima will remain involved in the project by providing specialized support, thereby ensuring knowledge transfer and the optimal performance of the plant under K-Water’s management.

A Milestone for the Daesan Region

The operational launch of this plant is vital for the Daesan area a strategic industrial hub for the petrochemical industry that has historically faced water scarcity challenges. With a capacity of 100,000 m³/day, the facility provides a stable water source independent of weather conditions, strengthening the region’s economic resilience.

With this achievement, GS Inima demonstrates its leadership and project excellence in its first project in South Korea, reaffirming its commitment to water innovation and establishing a solid foundation for future strategic developments in the region.
