This followed a comprehensive audit by the British Standards Institute

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has renewed the BS 13500 certification in Effective Governance Management Systems for the ninth consecutive year, following a comprehensive audit by the British Standards Institution (BSI). This achievement highlights DEWA’s adherence to the highest standards of corporate governance.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, received the certificate during a ceremony attended by DEWA officials, including Waleed bin Salman, Executive Vice President of Business Development and Excellence, Dr Ali Al Muwaijei, Vice President of Governance, Compliance and Agility, and members of the governance, compliance and agility team.

“We implement the highest international standards in good governance through an integrated system of organisational policies, procedures and controls that support our strategic goals of excellence in organisational work, ensuring the sustainability of resources and enhancing operational and financial efficiency. This has made DEWA a global benchmark for good governance in the utilities sector. The renewal of the BS 13500 certification for the ninth consecutive year reflects our commitment to establishing a culture of excellence, transparency and accountability across all our operations. This enhances the confidence of customers, partners and investors, and contributes to achieving sustainable value for all stakeholders,” said Al Tayer.

Bin Salman said DEWA, in line with the directives of its top management, “adopts an integrated approach to corporate governance based on local and federal guidelines, as well as directives issued by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development for government agencies, the World Bank’s guidelines, BSI specifications and other global standards”.

Dr Al Muwaijei noted that DEWA’s effective governance framework includes key components such as board oversight, a clear organisational structure and span of control, a well-documented strategy and proper delegation of financial and administrative authority.
