Cox signs a contract to improve the efficiency of Seville’s drinking water supply

  • It will develop a water pretreatment system with ozone (preozonation) at the current Carambolo water treatment plant.
  • It will improve the efficiency of water supply, especially in long periods of drought, when water quality decreases.
  • Through the company’s innovation capabilities, Cox applies efficient solutions to address global challenges in the water industry.
  • With this new agreement, Cox continues to make progress in fulfilling its strategic plan.

One of the main pillars on which Cox’s activity is based is its commitment to the environment and innovation. Water is one of the most scarce resources, so Cox works in the search for innovative and efficient solutions that respond to water scarcity in any part of the world, even acquiring challenges and finding opportunities where others see barriers. With this approach, Cox has signed a project for the city of Seville and its metropolitan area that will contribute to improving the efficiency of the population’s drinking water supply. More than one million inhabitants will benefit from the implementation of this system.

The project will consist of the adaptation and commissioning of a water pretreatment system with ozone (pre-ozonation) in the current Carambolo water treatment plant, which will improve the physical, chemical and biological quality of the inlet water, or raw water, of the water treatment plant, especially in long periods of drought, when the quality of the water decreases.

In addition, the solution developed in the construction project will allow a more efficient use of the reservoirs, treating even the water found in the deepest parts, despite being the one that requires the most treatment.

According to Enrique Riquelme, Executive Chairman of Cox, Cox is a technology company with high innovation capabilities that allow it to apply efficient solutions to respond to the global challenges of the present and this agreement is a good example of this, as well as of our commitment to the region of Andalusia“.

Cox has signed the contract for the adaptation and rehabilitation of the pre-ozonization facilities of this water treatment plant, which are currently out of service, and which includes the replacement of the current ozone generation equipment and the construction of a new pipeline, as well as a new ozone generation and dosing system.

The  Carambolo water treatment plant, which has been in service since 1963, is located on Cerro El Carambolo, west of the city of Seville, and is responsible for the supply of drinking water to the city of Seville and most of its metropolitan area.

Cox is committed to Andalusia, and to Seville, where its headquarters are located, and where the stakeout act has been signed, which marks the beginning of the project term, close to a year and a half.

Cox is making progress in its strategic plan and the signing of this contract adds to other recent milestones that reaffirm the company’s position as a benchmark in the global water sector, such as the 485,000 m³/day recently obtained in Chile.

The company is a world leader in the sector thanks to the continuous development and implementation of water solutions with innovative, competitive and sustainable technologies. Cox’s commitment to the water market is clear: it has commissioned 10% of the world’s installed capacity (with an installed capacity of more than four million m3 per day) and thus continues to guarantee vital access to water for citizens and contribute to the development of different economic sectors in a context of increasingly persistent water scarcity thanks to its 30 desalination plants.
