ACCIONA to modernize East Naples wastewater treatment plant in Italy

March 30, 2026

The plant will serve more than 800,000 people in fourteen municipalities and will be a key facility for the Naples metropolitan area, supporting its economic development.

The Italian government’s Special Commissioner for Wastewater Treatment and Reuse has awarded a consortium led by ACCIONA, together with its partners Fisia Italimplanti and Ottogas, the contract to modernize the East Naples wastewater treatment plant in Campania (Italy) for €111 million.

The upgraded facility will serve more than 800,000 people in fourteen municipalities, improving water quality in the Gulf of Naples and enabling the redevelopment of a large coastal area of the city.

The project is critical to the sustainable development of the area. The modernization of the facility, which dates back to the late 1990s, will improve supply through new biological water treatment technologies, contributing to cost savings and greater energy efficiency.

Extensive experience

ACCIONA has been operating in Italy for more than twenty years. Its Water division offers innovative solutions for comprehensive water cycle management. Through 40 projects in ten regions of the country, it provides water supply and treatment services to more than two million people.

Aside from water, ACCIONA, in consortium with RCM Construzioni, won the contract to build a breakwater that will shelter the new floating terminal for industrial use in the Port of Ravenna.

It has also carried out major infrastructure works in the country, such as the railway junction linking Bologna with the Milan-Naples high-speed line, the expansion of Fiumicino airport in Rome, and the construction of the Agri-Food Market, also in the Italian capital.

The company has its headquarters in Milan, Italy, and employs over 550 people across the country.

In renewable energy, ACCIONA Energía operates 156MW across four wind farms – Cocullo (Abruzzo), Isola and Sant’Anna (Calabria), and Caccamo (Sicily) — and will build two new photovoltaic plants in Sicily — Panbianco (100.8 MWp) and Benante (50.2 MWp) — after being awarded 151MW of solar capacity in the latest FERX public auction for renewable energy.
