Kofu City Waterworks Bureau receives order for replacement of Distribution Pump at Showa Water Treatment Plant

May 29, 2026

The Kofu City Waterworks Bureau’s Showa Water Treatment Plant is a key facility that supplies safe drinking water to Showa Town, southern Kofu City, and parts of Chuo City, using high-quality groundwater from the Class A river Kamanashi River as its water source. It has been in operation since 1958 (Showa 33) as Kofu’s second water source. The well water, drawn from 16 wells at depths ranging from 90m to 124m, maintains good water quality throughout the year, making it possible to supply water after only disinfection.

This facility manages water quality and quantity 24 hours a day using a central monitoring and control system, playing a vital role as a “lifeline” that supports not only the lives of citizens but also local industries and public facilities.

The Distribution Pump, which are the heart of this water treatment plant, have been operating stably for over 30 years since their installation. However, as they are equipment that operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, replacement was required with a view to ensuring a stable supply in the future. A plan was recently made to replace five main Distribution Pump, and a comprehensive evaluation method was used for the bidding process. In the technical proposals submitted during the bidding, Torishima’s proposal, which enabled safe and reliable construction within a limited construction period, was highly evaluated, and the company was awarded the contract.

This facility is responsible for supplying water to Kofu City, and since water distribution cannot be stopped, construction will be carried out while the facility remains operational. Therefore, a construction plan that minimizes the risk of water outages and thorough safety management are essential. In order to continue protecting the everyday necessity of “turning on the tap and having water come out,” we will work as a company, in close cooperation with the client, facility managers, and cooperating companies, to complete this project.
