GHD appointed as Owner’s Engineer for Philippines 440 MWp solar power plant

May 15, 2026

Professional services company GHD has been appointed as the Owner’s Engineer for San Ignacio Energy Resources Development Corp.’s (SIERDC) 440 MWp solar power plant to be located in the city of Ilagan, Province of Isabela, Philippines. The project is set to become one of the largest solar projects in the Philippines.

Located on a 330‑hectare site in Ilagan City, Isabela Province, the solar facility is being developed by TotalEnergies, in partnership with Nextnorth. The project forms a key part of the Philippines government’s renewable energy ambitions, which include sourcing 35% of electricity from renewables by 2030 and 50% by 2050.

As Owner’s Engineer, GHD will deliver project management and technical services supporting the engineering, procurement, construction, installation, testing and commissioning of the solar facility. GHD will provide both offshore and onshore services, including engineering design reviews, quality assurance oversight, construction supervision, commissioning support and health, safety, security, social and environmental (HSSSE) supervision. The project’s location in Isabela presents several engineering and delivery opportunities. The site spans rolling terrain, which influences solar‑panel layout, shading considerations and the construction methods required for a utility‑scale installation.

Sheldon Krahe, APAC Energy Leader, said the partnership underscores the organisation’s commitment to supporting clients in developing resilient, sustainable and future‑ready energy systems across the Asia–Pacific region.

This project brings together GHD’s global technical capability and strong local understanding in support of the Philippines’ renewable energy transition. Working alongside SIERDC, we look forward to collaborating with our partners to bring this significant solar development to life,” commented Sheldon.

The 440 MWp Ilagan, Isabela Solar Project represents one of the most significant renewable energy investments ever undertaken in Northern Luzon. Appointing GHD as Owner’s Engineer demonstrates our commitment to deliver a project that meets highest global standards at every stage to completion,” said Miguel Mapa, President, SIERDC.

The project is a milestone in advancing a cleaner, more secure energy future for the Philippines, reflecting growing momentum across the region for large‑scale solar generation.
