OCP Group and UNIDO sign MoU to accelerate agricultural transformation and low-carbon industrial development

December 3, 2025

OCP Group, a global leader in plant nutrition solutions and phosphate-based fertilizers, and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) have signed a fiveyear renewable Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a strategic cooperation framework that advances agricultural transformation, low-carbon industrial development, digital innovation and skills development across Africa and globally.

This agreement formalizes and expands a long‑standing collaboration between UNIDO’s mandate for inclusive and sustainable industrial development and OCP Group’s deep expertise in plant nutrition, industrial operations and innovation.

Under the MoU, the partners will collaborate to strengthen integrated agricultural value chains and agribusiness, support green hydrogen and green ammonia development, and advance the decarbonization of industrial processes. The MoU also covers cooperation in Industry 4.0, Artificial Intelligence and the development of smart, sustainable industrial parks.

Hanane Mourchid, Chief Sustainability & Innovation Officer at OCP Group, stated:

This partnership strengthens our ability to advance agricultural transformation and lowcarbon industrial development, while building the skills and solutions needed for a just and sustainable transition. Leveraging UNIDO’s convening role and our shared ambition, we aim to foster resilient, inclusive growth that benefits farmers, communities, and the planet.

Gerd Müller, Director General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, underlined:

“Building a world without hunger requires stronger food systems, innovation and effective partnerships with the private sector. By joining forces with OCP, we can advance green industrial solutions, support climate-resilient agriculture, and expand opportunities for young people as we work toward a more sustainable future for Africa and beyond.” The signing marks a new chapter in the OCP Group-UNIDO partnership, reinforcing their shared commitment to sustainability, innovation, and inclusive growth across global value chains.

About OCP Group

OCP Group helps feed a growing global population by providing the essential elements for soil fertility and plant growth. With over a century of expertise and a turnover of more than US$ 9 billion in 2024, OCP Group is a global leader in plant nutrition solutions and phosphate-based fertilizers. Headquartered in Morocco and present on five continents, OCP Group has over 17,000 employees and works with more than 350 customers around the world.

OCP Group has launched a green investment strategy dedicated to increasing fertilizer production and investing in renewable energy and water. The strategy foresees an overall investment of approximately US$ 13 billion over the period 2023-2027, enabling the Group to use 100% non-conventional water since early 2025 (ensuring full water autonomy, including a desalination capacity of 560 million m3 per year by 2027), 100% clean energy by 2027 and to achieve full carbon neutrality by 2040, while increasing the production of green fertilizers.

The Group is firmly convinced that leadership and profitability go hand in hand with social responsibility and sustainable development. Its strategic vision is built on the synergy between these two dimensions.

About UNIDO

The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations with a unique mandate to promote, dynamize and accelerate industrial development. This mandate is reflected in Sustainable Development Goal 9: “Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation.” UNIDO’s work nevertheless contributes to all Sustainable Development Goals.

UNIDO envisions a world without poverty and hunger, where industry drives low-emission economies, improves living standards, and preserves a livable environment for present and future generations, leaving no one behind.

The Organization supports its 173 Member States through four core functions: providing technical cooperation, conducting action-oriented research and policy advisory services, developing normative and standards-related activities, and fostering partnerships for knowledge and technology transfer.

Its work is concentrated on three priority areas: ending hunger by strengthening businesses from farm to fork; combating climate breakdown through renewable energy and industrial energy efficiency; and advancing sustainable supply chains so that producers in developing countries receive a fair deal and scarce resources are responsibly preserved.
