A new collaboration with Société Toulousaine de Bobinage leads to significant energy savings with the installation of IE4 motors.

In March 2024, WEG’s branch in France and Société Toulousaine de Bobinage (STB) completed the modernization of a drinking water pumping station operated by a global leader in the sector.

This initiative replaced two old and less efficient motors with high-efficiency IE4 200 kW motors, enhancing the system’s overall energy performance by integrating with the existing variable frequency drives (VFDs).

A long-standing partnership

Launched in 2023, the project was based on a strong collaboration between WEG and STB. As a trusted partner, STB managed the installation and commissioning of the motors at the customer’s facility.

Located in Toulouse, STB specializes in motor rewinding and offers technical solutions for motors, gearboxes, automation, and pumping systems. The company also distributes technical products and maintains a local stock of WEG motors from 0.12 to 55 kW, available in B3, B34, and B35 configurations.

Optimized replacement for greater efficiency

The pumping station, in operation for over 15 years, supplies drinking water directly to the network and also returns part of the pumped water to a buffer tank. WEG was contacted through the end user’s partner to deliver a more energy-efficient replacement, as the old motors predated current efficiency regulations.

The solution: IE4 motors equipped with WEG’s WISE insulation system, designed to withstand the stresses generated by VFDs. This IE4 + VFD combination can deliver up to 30% energy savings compared to IE3 motors in similar applications.

The new 200 kW motors were installed quickly and smoothly, fully meeting the project’s technical and energy requirements thanks to:
