Madrid, 23 September 2025. Lantania is advancing its growth in South America with a significant new project in Colombia. The infrastructure, water and energy group will handle the design, construction and commissioning of a wastewater treatment plant for Papeles y Corrugados Andina. With a budget of 4.5 million euros, this project underscores the paper company’s dedication to environmental stewardship, reinforcing its commitment to the Bogotá River and the region’s sustainable future, while meeting the standards set by the Corporación Autónoma Regional de Cundinamarca (CAR).

The primary goal of this new facility is to ensure proper treatment of wastewater generated at Papeles y Corrugados Andina’s factory in Sesquilé, enabling water recirculation and minimising environmental impact.

The new treatment plant will have a capacity to process over 4,000 m³/day. It will feature cutting-edge technology, including aerobic and anaerobic treatment processes, filtration, ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis. This will allow for water reuse in production processes, internal recirculation, reduced water consumption and a lower environmental footprint. Additionally, the plant will harness biogas, underscoring the company’s dedication to energy efficiency and the circular economy.

Lantania has already supplied the company with advanced equipment—such as filtration, ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis systems—for reusing water in production and significantly reducing water consumption and the factory’s impact on natural resources.

Papeles y Corrugados Andina specialises in designing, manufacturing and marketing corrugated cardboard packaging solutions. The company holds certifications in Corporate Social Responsibility and quality management (ISO 9001:2015), along with numerous accolades for its environmental performance. It uses 100% recycled raw materials and runs reforestation and ecological restoration programs, including planting over 300 trees along the Bogotá River.

The new water treatment plant will enable Papeles y Corrugados Andina to meet environmental regulations, reduce its reliance on the Bogotá River through internal recirculation (contributing to the watershed’s recovery and preservation), improve operational efficiency and lower costs associated with water use and treatment. Furthermore, it will strengthen the paper company’s partnerships with leading technology providers, ensuring the long-term viability and efficiency of its operations.
