With smart sensors and monitoring software, the company improves predictive maintenance and ensures water supply for thousands of families

A water utility company founded in the 1970s, a mixed-capital corporation with the state government as the majority shareholder, has implemented a complete asset monitoring solution provided by WEG to ensure continuous water supply and enhance the efficiency of predictive maintenance.

The project, launched in May 2023, involved the installation of WEGscan100 sensors, X2000 gateways, and the use of WEG’s Motion Fleet Management (MFM) software on three main motor pump sets, which are responsible for approximately 30% of the region’s water supply. With real-time data collection on vibration and temperature, the system began providing automated diagnostics and immediate alerts to the maintenance team.

The adoption of this technology has led to significant changes in the company’s daily operations. Emergency corrective interventions have been reduced, operational reliability has increased, and early failure detection has prevented unplanned downtimes. In December 2023, for example, the system detected an imbalance in one of the motor pumps. A swift intervention prevented the equipment from collapsing and averted water shortages for about 217,500 families—a result that clearly demonstrated the immediate return on investment.
